Westech produces achromatic lenses or achromats, which are designed to limit the effects of chromatic and spherical aberrations. Achromats are corrected to bring two different wavelengths of light into focus within the same image plane.

three achromatic lenses

The most common type is the achromatic doublet, consisting of two glass lenses. Typically, one lens is a negative flint glass, and the other is a positive crown element. The lenses are usually cemented together and are available in diameters from 5.0mm to 125.0mm.

Westech also produces air-spaced doublets which offer better control over chromatic and spherical aberrations than do cemented achromats, these require mounting in a barrel, using a spacer to maintain the central airspace.

Positive Achromats

Westech achromats are available in focal lengths from 10.0mm to 500mm.  MgF2 coating is standard. BBAR and other custom coatings are always available. Minimum purchase quantities may apply to these orders. Contact us for details.

Negative Achromats

These lenses are primarily used to increase the focal length of other lenses or lens systems (Barlow Lens) or to expand a light source. Westech can provide any EFL or diameter in a variety of glass types and housings.
